The cover of “Samuel’s Kisses”

samuel'skisses_coverIt is with absolute joy that I can now share with you the cover of my picture book, Samuel’s Kisses, published by New Frontier Publishing. I only recently saw the cover for the first time and I was thrilled to bits. I’m a big fan of ‘white space’ on the page and I think Janine Dawson has done an amazing job. Little Samuel is based on my son, Possum, and the illustrations reflect that. Possum is very excited to see ‘himself’ in a book.

I also discovered that Samuel’s Kisses has been featured in a catalogue for the very first time. Follow the link and discover the incredible 2010 New Frontier catalogue filled with picture book delights. It is such an honour to sit alongside the like of Janeen Brian and Peter Carnavas and to see my name in print.

Excuse me while I go and stare at the cover a little longer…

(Samuel’s Kisses will be released in September and I’ll let you know then where you will able to get your hands on a copy.)

  • It’s darling, Karen!!! I love it. Congrats!

  • Congratulations, Karen! This is so exciting. Does the mum’s face make it into the book? (Does she look like you?) :-)

  • Karen

Thanks, Rebecca. As for the mum, I’m not sure! I haven’t seen the inside yet but she’s not actually based on me…although I do love her dress sense. Definitely something I would wear!!

  • Karen

Thanks, Casey! I’m so excited. Just another step towards holding the book in my hands… I think I might burst when that happens!

  • Briohne

I love love love it!!! How silly of me,,, I have known you have been doing this for so long now but seeing an actual cover kind of punches you in the face with excitement…. Its so inspirational Karen that you have actually DONE IT… and the result is just about tangible.

  • Karen

LOL Briohne – that’s exactly how I feel too! It is becoming very, very real and is so exciting. Thanks for your encouragement and excitement on my behalf. It makes it so much more fun to have other people to share it with!

  • That is gorgeous! And I fully understand how exciting it is to see your cover for the first time. Can’t wait till you post that you have actually held the book in your hands!

  • I love Briohne’s descriptive excitement. ;) It DOES catch you out – over and over again. Gorgeous, Karen. Looking forward to seeing ALL of the book!

  • Beautiful cover, Karen! Congratulations.

  • Thanks Trudy, Kat & Trudie (anyone else named Trudy/Trudie/Trudee wish to comment so I have a trifecta??). And for those of you that haven’t heard the details before, TrudyJ is one of the main reasons I’m in the delightful situation I am today. I went to a workshop with Trudy in April 2008 and decided that very day that I would go home and start submitting. I did and look what happened! Thanks for the inspiration, Trudy :)

  • Angela

Congratulations on a gorgeous cover, Karen. Can’t wait to read it.

  • Thanks, Angela. I can’t wait to see the inside too!!

  • Hi Karen,
I love the new cover. Congrats. I hope it shows up on the photo Logan News shot last Friday. Karen :))

Thanks, Karen. I’ll be looking out for this week’s paper and studying it very closely :)

Hi Oliver. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be at CYA on the Saturday evening for the social stuff but have other commitments during the day. Would love to catch you then. Enjoy the launch of your book! (Everyone, make sure you look out for Oliver’s book, “Thai-riffic”. It sounds like a great book and lots of fun.)

  • Hi Karen, thanks for visiting me at my blog :) and congratulations on your book!! I love Janine Dawson’s work, it’s so charming and filled with life. A lovely cover – you must be thrilled! Look forward to seeing the finished product!

  • The cover looks fantastic. I have my own little Samuel and can’t wait to get your book.

  • Karen

    Hi Tina
Samuel is a beautiful name! I hope you and your little guy enjoy my book. It’s a lovely warm and fuzzy one that is perfect for bedtime :)

  • Karen

Oh, and hi to Tina B too! I got all confused with my deluge of tinas :)

  • Karen, what a beautiful cover. I can’t wait to buy and read it. I am also a sucker for white space!

  • hi Karen I am not a trudy or tina but a trish … I also have my own little Samuel , he would love this book.

Ps I also have his twin Joel …if you need a name for your next book lol.

I read somewhere you have twins and yes it is a lot of fun (through gritted teeth) when they transition to a bed. Ours went from our bed (kind of co sleeping with side car) to a shared single bed (together in our room) , then their own beds in one room and now own separate rooms …now they have switched rooms. They did have cots for daytime sleeps so that was the biggest problem more than night time.

    • Karen

Hi Trish! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I do have twins and I’m very much not looking forward to the whole moving-to-a-big-boy-bed thing. In fact, we’re delaying it as long as possible! The twins have just turned 2 but I’m going to wait until this new baby arrives in December before I move them. I figure the baby can sleep in a basinette for a few months! I’ve just separated them into separate rooms because they were waking each other up early in the morning and it’s working much better for all of us, except now hubby doesn’t have a storage room, and as he works from home that means his office is just a little bit crowded!
